“Old Fashioned Cocktail” refers to a technique, more than a glass of bourbon with sugar. Spirit stirred with bitters and sugar, was the original cocktail, and later after syrups and vermouths found their way under the umbrella, reactionairy types would order “an old fashioned cocktail”, as in, without the salad. Here’s one with salad.

Gear

  • Measuring glass
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cl basil syrup*
  • 8 drops 10 % saline solution
  • 6 cl Dill Anise Aquavit
  • Cherry tomato and basil for garnish
  1. Fill a glass with ice
  2. Add 1cl basil syrup
  3. Add 8 drops 10% saline solution
  4. Add 6cl Dill Anise Aquavit
  5. Stir with a bar spoon
  6. Strain into a glass
  7. Garnish with cherry tomato and basil

*take 1 dl of simply syrup, and blend with a handful of fresh basil. Run through a tight sieve or a cheese cloth. Keep for a few days in the fridge.
